Now if I'm not mistaken, I believe that Pikaia evolved the notochord in order to help make up its streamlined shape for swimming right?

the fossil record on early swimmy things are spotty in this period, there's lots of other streamlined critters who we can't quite place. is it a chordate? a fish? a worm? who the hell knows, it's the Cambrian! <3

Actually, adult tunicates don't have notocords. Only the larvae do.
