That's right! She's your favorite homegirl, the Norse goddess of the underworld.
So in my college Illustration class, we had a generic "myth" assignment, and in preparation for it, I wound up doing a lot more work than I should have. I get nerdy-excited and go all out sometimes.
The final painting featured Odin battling Fenrir at Ragnarok. (Students in the class used "it reminds me too much of LOTR" as a critique... please go read some books and then come back and talk to me )
Before the painting, though I did a ton of preparatory sketches to design the various Norse dieties, and this image of Hel was one! In hindsight, I'd say this sketch is a good deal more successful than the final painting, which I have yet to dig out of my art piles and upload!

This is an interesting portrayal of her, and I am glad to see someone who doesn't display her as needlessly 'cute'...but...she looks to...corpsey. According to the mythology, from the waist up, Hel looks completely normal. It's her bottom half that is rotted. So while I'm glad to see a more loyal depiction of her, it actually goes too far with the corpsiness. But, in the end, I must commend you and fav this image. And what fool compared Odin's fight with Fenrir to LoTR?!

unfortunately, though, this was done in 2002 based on a single sentence in a library book.
