That's right! She's your favorite homegirl, the Norse goddess of the underworld.
So in my college Illustration class, we had a generic "myth" assignment, and in preparation for it, I wound up doing a lot more work than I should have. I get nerdy-excited and go all out sometimes.
The final painting featured Odin battling Fenrir at Ragnarok. (Students in the class used "it reminds me too much of LOTR" as a critique... please go read some books and then come back and talk to me )
Before the painting, though I did a ton of preparatory sketches to design the various Norse dieties, and this image of Hel was one! In hindsight, I'd say this sketch is a good deal more successful than the final painting, which I have yet to dig out of my art piles and upload!

sure! well, this is a super old drawing. i'd just seen The Ring, and we had a mythology project. i chose Norse myths. yes it's probably inaccurate to the stories, bla bla. it's a sketch, it's old, and i still like it. :3
This. Is. Amazing. I was wondering, would I be able to describe Hel as this in a story I'm currently writing? You'll get full credit for it, and I'll link it. c:
although you didnt strictly follow the 'guidelines' of the mytho's.. most people dont. Most people envision her as half beautiful woman and half skeletal.. by half i mean one side is normal the other is corpse like.. but the true mythos lays to claim that actually she is normal to about her legs.. as her legs are festering away and corpse like. Either way, this adaptation shows great thought and imagination.. Its highly detailed.. and i love it. -faves-
may i ask what was your inspiration for this style of representation for hel.

unfortunately, though, this was done in 2002 based on a single sentence in a library book.
